The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is experiencing a period of expansion and is seeking exceptional candidates to join the Pain Medicine faculty. Employment Requirements:

  • Candidates for this position should have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Anesthesiology and an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pain Medicine.
  • Board Eligibility or Certification in Anesthesiology and Board Eligibility or Certification for Added Qualification in Pain Medicine is required for this position. (Equivalence to board certification can be determined on a case-by-case basis).
  • While research experience and teaching are not required to apply for this position, it is highly desirable.

Job Description:

  • Pain Specialists should feel comfortable in evaluating and treating patients suffering from a wide variety of acute and chronic pain conditions, including -but not limited to cancer-related pain, spine pain, neuropathic and musculoskeletal pain. Expertise in utilizing various treatment modalities, including medication management, interventional procedures, and referrals to physical therapy and other specialties, is necessary. Pain Specialists are expected to communicate effectively and collaborate with multidisciplinary specialties that include Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Hematology/Oncology, PM&R, physical therapy, and behavioral health.
  • Pain Specialists should feel comfortable and safe performing fluoroscopically guided and ultrasound-guided spine and peripheral procedures, such as spine and joint injections, radiofrequency ablations, peripheral nerve blocks, and interventional modalities with implantable devices such as spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal delivery systems.
  • Applicants should be comfortable supervising residents, Pain Medicine Fellows, and ARNPs.
  • Yet, applicants should feel comfortable seeing patients and performing procedures independently if required.
  • Applicants must participate in the department's academic activities, including teaching and mentoring trainees and participating in departmental conferences, committees, and faculty meetings.
  • Interest of applicants in pursuing academic scholarly activities, including research, is desirable.
  • No calls are expected for this position, mainly based on providing chronic outpatient pain services in clinics affiliated with the University of Miami Health System.
  • The effort distribution may change based on department needs, candidate’s interests, and success in obtaining extramural grant funding for research.

Compensation
• Compensation depends on years of experience and determination of professorial rank at the time of hiring.
