  • MaineHealth Breast Care & Cancer Supportive Care is seeking a leader for our breast oncology program. The program currently operates at 2 locations, a hub in Scarborough (10 minutes from Portland) and MaineHealth Maine Medical Center-Biddeford. We expected to add a third location at MaineHealth MidCoast Hospital. It would be the responsibility of the section Chief to oversee programmatic growth and quality at all Maine health sites. This will be a full-time position with a dedicated full-time breast health practice, to join their well-established MaineHealth Network. We are also recruiting for 1-2 junior faculty members.

    The breast oncology program at MaineHealth is expanding to provide a high-level of care close to home for patients. To fulfill this mission, we are recruiting a breast surgeon to work in the MaineHealth Oncology Network.

    This position offers:

    • Part of a statewide oncology care program- the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN) is an integrated cancer care delivery network across the Southern, Coastal and Mountain regions of Maine and eastern New Hampshire. Designed to provide care as close to home as possible, the network is comprised of 11 hospital partners and provides comprehensive cancer care to more than 7,400 cancer patients annually including more than 600 cases at the Scarborough Breast Care Center.
    • MHCCN is the dominant cancer care provider in the state of Maine with COC, NAPBC and NAPRC accredited comprehensive cancer care programs.
    • Fully integrated surgical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, patient support/social worker, nutritionist service.
    • Robust research program through membership of the NCI’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). Opportunities to be PI or sub-PI of clinical trials as well as support for investigator-initiated sponsored research.
    • A total of 19 dedicated tumor board meetings for multiple cancer types (brain, head and neck, breast, lung, GI/GU, rectal, liver cancer, melanoma, sarcoma, neuro-oncology, hematologic malignancies) in a month.
    • Leading edge analytics and metrics including membership of ASCO CancerLinQ. EPIC EMR system with BEACON, and ClinicalPath platforms.
    • Faculty position with Tufts University School of Medicine (TU). Participation in MaineHealth’s nascent Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program as well as the Maine Track Undergraduate Medical Education in Portland through affiliation with Tufts University.

    Qualifications:

    • MD/DO from an accredited medical school.
    • Board Certification/Board Eligible in general surgery, having completed a residency in general surgery.
    • Preferably breast surgical oncology or surgical oncology fellowship-trained, accredited by the Society of Surgical Oncology.
    • Interest in benign and malignant breast pathology.
