Summary
- My long-term career objective is to acquire the necessary training, practical experience, and knowledge to become a leading independent principal investigator in studying the basic cell biology to correct molecular defects in pediatric liver-based metabolic diseases. My current project investigates the role of liver progenitor cells in response to diseased hepatocytes in alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. These findings may have potential clinical applications in cellular therapy. My combined MD/PhD training has given me the skills to plan, implement, and analyze data in liver pathobiology, with a focus on cellular approaches to tissue engineering and liver regeneration. My clinical training has given me a strong foundation in pediatric hepatology. My GI fellowship has given me the opportunity to extend my research into the pathophysiology of A1AT deficiency. I am currently an Attending Physician at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, appointed as an Assistant Professor in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Pathology. This position will enable me to develop the clinical and research expertise needed to become an independent physician-scientist in pediatric liver diseases, with specialization in transplant hepatology.
