Summary
- I am a pediatric intensivist and the local site PI for a multi-institutional quality improvement initiative, the Pediatric ICU Liberation. Mayo Clinic is one of the 8 centers involved in this major national project to implement the ABCDEF Bundle to improve the care of critically ill children. I am also the physician liaison for the Pediatric Delirium Team and the Pediatric Mobility Team as part of the Liberation project. I developed a pediatric delirium management and prevention bundle called the Bundle to Eliminate Delirium (BED) to mitigate the iatrogenic and reversible drivers of delirium. The bundle especially focuses on improving the quality of sleep in the PICU as poor sleep quality is associated with delirium. I also represent our local ICUs in another multi-institutional quality improvement collaborative, the Improving Pediatric Sepsis Outcome, to detect, manage, and prevent severe sepsis and septic shock.
