Summary

• Dr. Schmidt began her career in healthcare after graduating from Nevada State College in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked in Las Vegas providing care to people of all ages, in various areas of healthcare, with Hospice being her main area of interest. In 2017, she graduated from National University with a Master of Science in Nursing specializing as a family nurse practitioner; and in 2021 she earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Walden University. Her doctorate project titled "Increase Nurses Knowledge of Under-utilization of Hospice Services for African Americans" was published in ProQuest in 2021. Dr. Schmidt is a member of the American Nurses Association, Nevada Nurses Association, Nevada Advanced Practice Nurse Association, Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc (professional nursing organization), League of Extraordinary Black Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. She was recognized in 2021 by the Nevada Nurses Foundation as a “Shining Star in Nursing”. She has also received multiple awards in leadership from Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated. In 2021. 2022, she received a certificate of special Congressional recognition for civic engagement in the Las Vegas community by Congressman Horsford's office. Dr. Schmidt co-wrote "AB827 Cultural Competency and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Blueprint For Nurses" in response to the 2021 mandated cultural competency requirement for all Nevada nurses seeking to renew their license. Dr. Schmidt is nationally certified with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board and is an independent nurse practitioner dedicated to providing excellent quality and accessible care to all Nevadans.
