- Born in the US and raised in Ankara, Turkey, Tolga Tuncer, MD is a combined Neuro-Oncologist and Medical Oncologist with a unique background in Radiation Oncology.
Dr. Tuncer attended Ankara Üniversitesi Tip Fakültesi,Ankara, Turkey where he received his medical degree. Subsequently, he completed multiple residencies in internal medicine at Upstate Medical University, UMASS and St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, and in Radiation Oncology at the Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine and Ohio State University Hospital. He also completed his four Fellowships in Radiation Oncology at Lund University, Sweden and at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB),and in Neuro-Oncology at the prestigious Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ and in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, consecutively.
He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, and by the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties ( UCNS) in Neuro-oncology. He is board-eligible in Hematology and also holds a Board Certification in Radiation Oncology from Turkey.
His areas of special interest include brain tumors, gliomas, spinal cord tumors, brain metastases, and central nervous system lymphoma, head and neck cancers, Gynecological Oncology and GU Cancers. He is sensitive to the uniqueness of each patient's situation and adapts his consultations and treatment options appropriately to accommodate individual needs and concerns.
Dr. Tuncer welcomes patients who speak English Turkish and some German. His awareness of these different languages makes him accessible to patients from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
