Summary

  • Timothy W. Olsen MD is the founder and CEO of EyeMacular Regeneration, Inc. (December 2023) and iMacular Regeneration, LLC (June 2016). EyeMac Regen is developing novel therapies for end-stage macular disease and intraocular drug delivery. iMac Regen studies the pathogenesis of AMD and is based on the Minnesota Grading System (MGS). Translational research has been supported by NIH/NEI-STTR-SBIR grants. He has been awarded over $8.7M in total research support as a Principal Investigator, published over 196 peer-reviewed publications, and delivered over 485 national or international lectures. More recently, Dr. Olsen served as Professor and Consultant in Ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota (2017-2023), Secretary for Quality of Care for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (2016-2022) and as President ('23-24) of both the American Ophthalmological Society and the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology. At Emory, Dr. Olsen served as the F. Phinizy Calhoun Sr. Professor, Chairman of Ophthalmology, and Director of the Emory Eye Center (2007-2016). Prior to his time at Emory, he led the Minnesota Lions Macular Degeneration Center and director of Retina at the University of Minnesota ('98-07) where he became a full Professor on the tenure track. He began his academic career at the University of Wisconsin, Madison as Assistant Professor from 1996-1998. Olsen graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kansas and was selected AOA at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. He completed his residency at the University of Minnesota and Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta.
