- Stephen Gelfand, MD, FACP is a semi-retired rheumatologist in Myrtle Beach, SC and is an independent consultant in rheumatology and chronic noncancer pain for disability companies, medical expert reviews for law firms, and as an advisor to Physicians for Responsible Opioid Prescribing or PROP (www.supportprop.org) of which he was a founding member and remains active in regard to the opioid epidemic. He was affiliated with Grand Strand Regional Medical Center at which he taught rheumatology to the Internal Medicine Residency Program for three years until he retired from active practice in July, 2018. He practiced for more than 45 years with special interests in the medical education of the rheumatic disorders, the inflammatory rheumatic diseases, and non-opioid multidisciplinary management of OA and fibromyalgia.
