He specializes in conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux, esophageal disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, and swallowing disorders. Dr. Achem has contributed several articles to established medical journals and he participated in clinical trials focused on adult eosinophilic esophagitis. He's been awarded multiple times, including the designation of Master from the American College of Gastroenterology in 2015, and has been recognized as one of the best gastroenterologists in Jacksonville by Jacksonville Magazine. He served as President of the Florida Gastroenterology Society and Governor of the American College of Gastroenterology, Florida. He was Editor-in-Chief for "Digestive Diseases". He has given multiple national and international lectures.
