Summary
- Dr. Roy Lee is a board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist, specializing in molecular genetic pathology (MGP, "DNA testing") and pathology informatics, and carries a graduate school degree from UCSF in bioinformatics. He completed his fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, and shortly afterwards, recruited by Cleveland Clinic to be the Associate Medical Director for Pathology Informatics at the institution's pathology organization, as well as staff molecular pathologist. Prior to pathology training, Dr. Lee completed an internship in general surgery at UCSF, followed by four years of active duty service as a flight surgeon in the US Air Force, providing primary care services to the flying community and their families.
Dr. Lee's passion for teaching and mentoring led to his recent appointment as fellowship program director for Cleveland Clinic's molecular genetic pathology fellowship. During his fellowship, he successfully pioneered the novel approach for teaching pathology informatics fellows using the case study method at business schools, and case interview methods used during interviews for strategic consulting companies such as McKinsey & Company.
As a practicing informatician and molecular pathologist, Dr. Lee is changing the current paradigms of harnessing data from molecular/DNA testing in laboratory information systems, solving data problems related to next generation sequencing, and is also working on the next generation of data analytics methods for healthcare - whether by real time digital dashboards or predictive analytics.
In his spare time, Dr. Lee trains his dogs towards becoming certified therapy dogs for patients at Cleveland Clinic, and is (infamously) known for his love of performing improv comedy.
