- Pooja Amy Shah, MD, is a dual board certified Integrative Medicine & Family Medicine physician, practitioner of medical acupuncture, and a mind-body medicine specialist. She runs a private integrative medicine practice in NYC, uniquely blending ancient Eastern healing modalities with standard evidence-based Western allopathic care (www.drpoojaamyshah.com). She is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University since 2011.
A native Texan, Dr. Shah attended the University of Texas for her undergraduate & medical studies. She completed her residency training at Boston University Medical Center, where she also served as chief resident and later as inpatient faculty. Since 2014, Dr. Shah completed Harvard Medical School's International Structural Acupuncture Course for Physicians and several advanced courses; she assistant taught for the course in 2016-17. She has been awarded three Weil Foundation grants which helped her to establish the Family Medicine Integrative Medicine Track for the residents at Columbia University, which she continues to direct.
In addition to her role as Director of Integrative Medicine at Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian in the Center for Family and Community Medicine, Dr. Shah's other primary roles include Director of Musculoskeletal Education & medical student educator; she previously held a primary inpatient teaching faculty position. Dr. Shah is a previous Education Chair for the national Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health. She completed a two year Certificate Program in Contemplative Psychotherapy at the Nalanda Institute as well as a 200-hour yoga teacher certification in Spring 2020. She currently serves as a board member for the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine National Advisory Board, Integrative Medicine in Residency Programs.
Dr. Shah has presented at numerous national conferences and has published articles on the topics of chronic pain, mind-body medicine, & low back pain.
