- An internationally-trained board-certified neurosurgeon with an interest and training in skull base surgery and complex spine instrumentation. Graduated from Medical School with top honors. Pursued surgical training in Europe including neurosurgery at the National Center for Neurosurgery in Ireland. Started as a junior faculty member at University of Dublin and obtained Masters Degree by research on “Interleukin-1 binding and expression in brain." Completed a research fellowship in gene therapy for brain tumors at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital. The work on gene therapy included testing efficacy and toxicity of different viral vectors & designing a novel method of gene delivery into recurrent Glioblastoma multiforme. Completed a Neurosurgery Fellowship at University of Arizona and Residency at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences with skull base approaches training. Recipient of “Prof. Iftikhar A. Raja Humanity in Medicine Award.”
Recipient of University Merit scholarship and Quaid-e-Azam Aligarh scholarship in medical school and recipient of education and training grant from North-West health board in Ireland. Listed in Who’s Who of International Professionals (1999). Held symposium chair for “Advances in Gene Therapy for Neurological Disorders” at Internet Association for Biomedical Sciences 2000 Meeting. Written seven book chapters and over 40 papers, abstracts and oral presentations at conferences in US, Europe and Far East. Authored neuroscience/neurosurgery and neuroanatomy teaching material published on CD-ROM and palm pilots. From 2004-2008 was a reviewer for “Practical Reviews in Neurosurgery”- an audio and written journal published by Oakstone Medical Publishing in association with AANS. Served as a resident delegate in the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS: 2006-2007) on two of the subcommittees & wrote questions for SANS wired. Editor: Journal of Neurology and Stroke.
