Summary

  • I have had extensive experience in Clinical and Administrative Emergency Medicine, Leadership (over 25 years of Medical Directorship and 15 years as a Regional Director for over 16 Emergency Departments) with a special emphasis of Quality Improvement, Operations, and Advocasy. I have done Residencies in both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine and am Board Certified in both. My leadership positions have included President of the Oregon Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Emergency Medicine Director for the state of Oregon, member of the Board of Trustees of the California Medical Association and San Bernardino County Medical Society. I am currently President-elect of the San Bernardino County Medical Society and was elected to the Board of Directors of CEP-America in 2014.

I have led region wide improvements in Emergency Department Operations using the process of Rapid Medical Evaluation to where my Emergency Departments average 22 minutes wait time to see a provider. I pioneered special operational improvements in large site Emergency Departments (yearly patient volumes over 80,000).. My recent efforts have focused on the application of LEAN technology to Emergency Department Operations and the study of patterns of Risk in Emergency Medicine practice in conjunction with our medical malpractice company, MedAmerica Mutual. I have chaired the Risk Advisory Committee for the Partnership and was appointed Director of Risk for CEP America in 2015.

As Regional Director for CEP America, I have personally helped to start up 13 Emergency Departments, all of which are functioning very successfully, including 2 which have earned the distinction of "CEP-America ER of the Year" and 8 Distinctive Site awards.

I am proud to have been named "Master Clinician" by CEP America and have been honored with a recognition for Distinctive service twice, as well as "Teacher of the Year" twice at Oregon Health Sciences University.
