- Physician-scientist with 15+ years of experience in basic and clinical research in the fields of neurology, psychiatry, neuropharmacology, and neuromuscular medicine through working in different institutes including Tehran University of Medical Sciences, University College London, Johns Hopkins University, Neurology Institute for Brain Health and Fitness, Harvard University, University of Massachusetts (UMass) Chan Medical Center, and Beth Israel Lahey Hospital.
- Completed Neurology Residency training at UMass Medical Center, and Fellowship training in Neuromuscular Disorders at Mass General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH).
- Former Associate Program Director and Assistant Professor of Neurology at UMass Chan Medical Center in Massachusetts, and currently Director of ALS Center at Beth Israel Lahey Hospital and Assistant Professor of Neurology at UMass Chan School of Medicine.
My current role is divided into two major parts:
(1) I see adult patients with a wide variety neurologic conditions, especially those with neuromuscular disorders, in the clinic and round in inpatient general and consult neurology services at Hospital with our team of residents and rotating medical students. I also conduct nerve conduction study/electromyography (NCS/EMG) weekly.
(2) I contribute to multiple translational clinical research projects on neuromuscular diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also called Lou Gehrig's disease), muscular dystrophies, peripheral neuropathies, myopathies, and neuromuscular junctions disorders. I hope that my contribution to these studies will help find the most efficient therapeutic approaches for patients who suffer from serious neuromuscular diseases such as ALS and muscular dystrophies.
