Summary

  • Dr. Swenson is a Board-Certified General Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 2005 and attended the military’s medical school in Washington D.C. He was then transferred to Las Vegas, where he completed his General Surgery Residency with the University of Nevada at University Medical Center. Afterward, he was stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska. During his military career, he traveled to many countries and performed surgery on our men and women in uniform throughout the world. In addition to his military duties, he was active in the local community, providing surgical care at hospitals throughout Alaska and establishing military partnerships with Alaska hospitals. After separating from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel, he moved back to Las Vegas to take a position as the Associate Program Director for the Valley Health System General Surgery Residency.

Dr. Swenson is a member of the Valley Health Physician Alliance. In addition to his extensive acute care surgery background in the military, he brings a wealth of experience in minimally-invasive surgical techniques. These skills were critical in enabling active-duty service members to return to full physical activity after they received surgical care and form the basis of his work in the Valley Health System. His surgical focus includes laparoscopic and robotic repair of hernias, gastric reflux, gallbladder disease, pilonidal disease, and cancer operations.
