More recently his work has focused on the role of sympathetic activation causing redistribution of fluid from splanchnic venous vessels into the circulatory volume leading to decompensated HF. His research has been funded by multiple agencies including the NIH, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the American Heart Association. He also has served as investigator, Steering Committee member, and Endpoint Committee member of numerous clinical trials designed to test new therapies in HF, including the NHLBI-sponsored HF Research Network. He is a former member of the Care Standards Committee of the Heart Failure Society of America.
Dr. Dunlap has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Physiology, American Journal Physiology: Heart & Circulatory Physiology, and the Journal of Cardiac Failure, and regularly serves as abstract reviewer for the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions.
