- Dr. Kimberly Gudzune is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) Foundation. In this role, she leads initiatives supporting the field of Obesity Medicine including strategy development and execution, clinical and outcomes research, as well as training and engagement of ABOM-certified physicians. Over her career, Dr. Gudzune has been an active clinician-investigator focused on obesity, including how obesity influences the healthcare experience and the efficacy of weight management interventions. Her research has been featured in The New York Times and Time Magazine, as well as National Public Radio, CBS This Morning and The Today Show.
Dr. Gudzune is board-certified in Internal Medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She received her bachelor’s degree in environmental biology from the University of Colorado. Dr. Gudzune attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she received her doctor of medicine and master of public health degrees. She completed her training in internal medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System. After completing residency, Dr. Gudzune completed a clinical research fellowship within the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She served as faculty at Johns Hopkins until 2024. During her tenure at Johns Hopkins, she established and directed the Healthful Eating, Activity & Weight Program, an Obesity Medicine specialty clinic. In addition, she established the Obesity Medicine fellowship as well as led courses for medical students and elective rotations for residents in this area. Dr. Gudzune also previously served as the ABOM Medical Director where she oversaw certification exam development.
