Summary

  • Dr Yip is the Head of the Rheumatology Department and Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency program at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. He is a double board certified physician in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Dr Yip had completed the competitive North Central Thames London Foundation residency program in the UK before pursing further training in the USA. He finished his fellowship in Rheumatology at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) / New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell and Internal Medicine residency training at New York University (NYU) / Bellevue main campus.

Teaching, quality improvement and research is something Dr Yip has a keen passion for and this has been recognised on multiple levels; winning numerous awards with projects presented/published both nationally and internationally. Dr Yip is heavily invested in medical education and leads multiple initiatives aimed at training residents and students from physical exam skills to clinical reasoning.

His areas of rheumatological interest include the role of asymptomatic hyperuricemia/gout in metabolic diseases along with lupus research into APOL1 and its relationship with avascular necrosis in the African American population - he was part of the team that first discovered this association.

At this time Dr Yip is investigating how rheumatic patients are affected by the adverse events of glucocorticoid (steroid) use. He is actively involved in the OMERACT initiative (an international network of medical professionals) that helps steer rheumatological research worldwide and just published with the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) to develop new guidelines for total hip and knee surgeries for osteoarthritis.
