Summary
- Addiction is not a choice; it is a brain disease.
Substance abuse manipulates the brain by creating a flawed operating system - a system that implies you need another dose of the abused drug in order to survive. Realizing addiction's lie is the first step.
Recovery is a process that requires more than 30 days of attention. Recovery is a life-long effort that requires a full-continuum of care to properly guide patients through each level of treatment. Just like how addiction is tailored to the individual, so is treatment.
No one should battle addiction alone. We understand the support needed while in recovery, as many of The Recovery Village staff have faced the same struggle. Through openness, honesty, and willingness we know recovery is possible.
