- Dr. Joseph David Cooper is a board-certified Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases physician. He is currently employed at a safety-net, large county hospital system in the heart of Silicon Valley. His clinical practice is primarily outpatient with a focus on caring for people living with HIV/AIDS. He also performs inpatient consultation on a variety of infectious diseases months out of the year.
He was chief medical resident prior to starting his infectious diseases fellowship. Dr. Cooper is a clinical assistant professor (affiliated) at Stanford University School of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Disease and Geographic Medicine. He continues to publish in a variety of academic journals regarding his professional interests. He takes pride in teaching, mentoring and recruiting the next generation of learners from all stages (medical students to infectious disease fellows).
He belongs to a multitude of professional societies and volunteers his time within these societies centering around education and advocacy. He is an ad-hoc reviewer for many internal medicine and infectious diseases academic journals.
Dr. Cooper currently holds a leadership position in Valley Physicians Group, an organization (union) representing nearly 500 physicians, podiatrists and dentists at his place of employment centering around advocacy, organization and excellence.
Outside of medicine and in his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking and exploring the bay area and beyond, cooking new recipes, gardening, nature photography, listening to all types of music, exercising and playing sports.
