Summary
- I am American Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery and have practiced cardiac and thoracic surgery for 28 years.
1. Adult CT Surgery: Presently my clinical activities are focused in adult cardiac surgery at Penang Adventist Hospital, the largest private cardiac program in Malaysia. This program’s outcomes are excellent and previously reported to the Joint Commission International (JCI) of Chicago. The clinical practice in this institution centers around Coronary Surgery, Valve Surgery, & Adult Congenital Heart Surgery.
Clinical Practice: My adult clinical practice has included complex adult cardiac procedures. This experience includes advanced forms of mitral valve repair including minimally invasive mitral and aortic valve procedures. Mitral Repair techniques are utilized in more than 90% of mitral valve operations. Aortic surgery experience includes aortic valve sparing techniques utilized on normally functioning or incompetent congenitally bicuspid aortic valves and on acute type A aortic dissections. My CABG practice has included using techniques for arterial conduits with bilateral internal thoracic arteries and the radial artery for appropriately selected patients using preferably on pump with occasional off-pump techniques.
2. Pediatric Cardiac Surgery: Presently I have been working with the Penang Adventist Hospital reactivating their program, which has included working closely with nursing education and collaboration with the perfusion department as the ECMO program has become activated. A number of our adult cardiac patients originate from Indonesia with adult diagnosed congenital heart defects. I have learned skills in consensus, and collaboration while working closely with pediatric specialty disciplines.
