He received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine and completed his psychiatry residency and research fellowship at UCLA's Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital. He is experienced in the management of mood, anxiety, and cognitive disorders, with particular expertise in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and the use of ketamine. He held the Miller Family Chair in Depression Research at UCLA before becoming Professor Emeritus in 2018.
He founded the Los Angeles TMS Institute in 2018 to bring advanced procedural treatments out of the lab and into clinical availability in Southern California.
