- Farzana Rashid Hossain, MD is a results-oriented, visionary physician leader with record of team management, operations, and relationship network building to deliver profitable RVU growth. First and foremost, she is a gastroenterologist who is an innovative and creative problem solver to deliver the highest possible care for patients - as evidenced by the fact that in some instances her patients even made unsolicited donations to Penn Medicine to express their immense gratitude to Dr. Hossain.
She is known for her high integrity, empathy, excellent interpersonal skills to get things done by working collaboratively with colleagues, (non)medical staff, administrators, superiors, regulatory bodies, Boards, policy makers and community constituents. Her strategic approach, bias for action, business acumen and financial aptitude, putting her in a unique position to help shape the future of a healthcare organization. In addition to teaching medical students/fellows, she enjoys mentoring inventors and entrepreneurs. She was appointed in 2016 to Philadelphia’s First Commission for Women to help gender neutral economic, health and wellness policy.
Dr. Hossain has received numerous awards such as Women of Distinction Award from Business Journal, Healthcare Hero Award and Radhika Srinivasan Award from Penn, Top Doctors Award and Exceptional Women In Medicine Award, Rising Stars in Healthcare, etc.
Dr. Hossain grew up in Midwest U.S.A. and earned her medical degree in 2001 at the University of Sheffield, U.K. She gained a unique perspective on European public health from hands-on experience working as a physician for two years at a hospital in England. She completed her residency at MetroHealth Medical/CWRU-SOM and her GI fellowship at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. She also completed a rotation in IBD at Harvard University. In 2010, she was recruited to Penn Medicine, where she was promoted to Asst. Professor of clinical medicine in 2012
