Summary
- I am a board certified neurologist and vascular neurologist with training in neurosurgery in Peru, and neurology, and vascular and critical care neurology in the U.S.A. I am also a Professor of Neurology and Medical Education at California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM). Ninety percent of my time is spent on clinical practice as a tele-neurohospitalist at several hospitals in the states of California and Washington, 9% is used on administrative duties inherent to my practice, and 1% is devoted to teaching. By means of my work as a former Chair of the Department of Neurology at CUSM and Director of Neurology at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC), the primary teaching hospital of CUSM, I contributed with CUSM’s and ARMC’s high performance in neurology. Before going to private practice, I was the inaugural Chair of the Department of Neurology at CUSM, and the inaugural Residency Program Director at ARMC, both in Colton, California. Through networking and team building, I created a department of neurology at CUSM, and accredited neurology residency programs in vascular neurology at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and neurology at University of Central Florida/HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, and ARMC, leading a team of academic and private neurologists at these institutions. Working with medical students and residents while attending to patients is personally important and provides the most valuable ideas for teaching, research, and clinical program development. I have published over 60 abstracts, book chapters, and peer-reviewed papers. I serve on two journal editorial boards and as ad-hoc reviewer for the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases. I am active in professional societies and serve or have served on national committees. In recognition of these activities, I was elected Fellow of the American Heart Association Stroke Council, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Neurological Association.
