She completed her anesthesiology residency at Georgetown University and a pain fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.
  
  Notably, she was the first woman physician anesthesiologist appointed by the American Society of Anesthesiologists to expand naloxone, the first opioid overdose antidote, at the US FDA. Additionally, she was the first female co-chair of the ASA Committee on Prescription Opioid Abuse.
