- Desmond Sutton, MD, is a board certified obstetrician-gynecologist and maternal fetal medicine specialist and is the Director of Labor and Delivery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai West. As Director, Dr. Sutton oversees the Labor and Delivery team and the development and implementation of protocols and programs that enhance quality of care, patient safety and the overall patient experience. Prior to Mount Sinai, Dr. Sutton was with Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he served as Co-Director of the COVID-19 Telehealth Clinic and was a core member in the development of a Maternal Morbidity Review Committee for the New York-Presbyterian Hospital System.
Dr. Sutton earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he received the Jean L. Cook, MD, Memorial Award for Medical Excellence. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital of Brown University and was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award for three consecutive years, as well as the Excellence in Resident Research Award. Dr Sutton completed his fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center where he was awarded the Golden Needle Award for procedural excellence for fetal procedures including percutaneous umbilical cord blood sampling and intrauterine transfusions.
Dr. Sutton is a Fellow of the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine and serves as a member of the Fellowship Affairs Committee and the Healthcare Policy and Advocacy Committee for SMFM. He also is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
