Summary

  • After 15 years in academic medicine (most recently at Vanderbilt), Dr. Edwards is opening his own practice, Paradigm Health, in Franklin, TN. At Paradigm Health, we invest in health, similar to investing in wealth, by identifying patient health risk factors, and making adjustments in order to realize dividends toward healthspan that allows patients to realize life goals as they age. Prior to starting Paradigm, Dr. Edwards was Assoc. Prof of Anesthesiology, and Chief of Pain Medicine at Vanderbilt. He is the immediate past President of the Tennessee Pain Society. He received his medical & graduate degrees at the University of Maryland where he discovered and described some of the mechanisms of endogenous cannabinoids in learning and memory functions of the brain. He spent 4 years at the University of Florida studying internal medicine and anesthesiology as a resident, the final year as acting Chief Resident. At Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University, he studied Pain Medicine as a fellow, and stayed on as faculty in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine where he lead the Acute Pain Service, ran the Pediatric Pain Clinic, and held telemedicine clinic for adults in chronic pain while also treating them at Martha's Vineyard Hospital. In 2015, Dr. Edwards moved to Nashville and joined dynamic colleagues at Vanderbilt where he served as the initial Service Chief of the independent Chronic Pain Service, then, as Division Chief, opened 7 new clinic locations to serve patients with chronic pain, cancer pain, and addiction. At every single step of this journey, Dr. Edwards is indebted to superb, talented, and wise colleagues, and to institutions in the United States that invested in this Canadian (recent U.S. Citizen) to have success. His new practice is a way to continue to give back, to pay into society the debt owed by this grand investment.
