Summary

  • Dr. Lee is on faculty in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Population Health at the NYU School of Medicine. Prior to his arrival at NYU, he attended Harvard University and the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. After training to become an emergency physician at NYU, he became a fellow at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained a Masters in health policy research. He then returned to NYU to start his academic career in health services research.

Dr. Lee's research uses big data in the form of large administrative claims databases and uses geographic analysis (GIS) to predict patterns of health care use among millions of emergency department users. He has previously studied hospital closures to determine how access to hospital-based care is affected by these events. He has also analyzed how natural disasters affect health care delivery and is using real-time geographic analysis for the early identification of regions most affected by events like Hurricane Sandy. He is also currently developing measures of local population health to improve delivery of care to communities identified as hotspots of chronic disease burden.
