Summary
- Dr. Chung is a general surgeon with extensive experience in laparoscopic and open surgery for hernia, gallbladder and other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, and oncologic surgery for breast and colon cancer. Upon completion of his surgical training at UCLA in 2004, he joined the Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG). He has been practicing with Kaiser Permanente except for the 3 years he lived in Ethiopia to serve on medical mission. He has been board certified since 2006 by the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) starting 2010.
Dr. Chung teaches medical students and surgical residents as Assistant Clinical Professor with the UC Riverside School of Medicine and the Riverside University Health System (RUHS), respectively. From 2012-2015, he moved his family to Ethiopia to train surgeons as volunteer faculty and Site Director for the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) at the Myungsung Christian Medical Center (aka "Korean Hospital") in Addis Ababa.
Dr. Chung has been a dual clinician/administrator for most of his career with SCPMG, serving as the Assistant Chief of Surgery from 2008-2012 and 2016-2023. Since 2020, he has been the Assistant Area Medical Director of Physician HR and Legal, helping to manage the performance of 950+ physicians in the Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Service Area.
