He is a current Assistant Professor of Surgery at University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, working at Tampa General Hospital.
He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed surgical residency at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. He then completed three clinical fellowships in Surgical Critical Care, Burn, and Acute Care Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He has held academic clinical teaching positions at the schools of medicine at Vanderbilt, Saint Louis University, and Washington University in St. Louis.
Dr. Armstrong serves in the United States Air Force. He deployed to Afghanistan, Bagram Air Field, Craig Joint Theater Hospital as the Trauma Czar / Medical Director in 2019-2020. He was an instructor at the St. Louis Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (C-STARS) from 2018 to 2023. He is the current Trauma Medical Director for US Central Command (CENTCOM).
