Summary

• April Schindler, MD is the founder and owner of Renown Psychiatry, PLLC. She possesses a holistic, grounded approach to the treatment of mental illness that has grown from her nontraditional path into medicine. Originally from Las Vegas, NV, she received a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from University of Nevada Las Vegas. Upon completion of her undergraduate education, she began her professional career in real estate development, investments and construction. She was a general contractor for many years in Las Vegas, NV and specialized in remodeling homes. By working in such a dynamic field, she gleaned much about human behavior, motivation, lifestyles, and relationships. She has always loved creating and restoring beauty and value in what others may have deemed unsalvageable. It is this very passion for improving structure and function that attracted her to the field of medicine.
  
  Dr. Schindler received her Doctor of Medicine from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in sunny southern California. She then came to Charlotte, NC for specialty training in psychiatry as a member of the inaugural residency class at Atrium Health’s Sandra and Leon Levine Psychiatry Residency Program. As Chief Resident, she helped form the training experience for future generations of psychiatric residents at Atrium.
  
  In her practice of psychiatry, Dr. Schindler brings a fervent desire for restoration and total body wellness. She incorporates psychotherapeutic and evidenced based biologic interventions to treat a full spectrum of psychiatric disorders. She is committed to providing exceptional psychiatric care with special interests in addiction psychiatry, psychotic disorders, healthcare provider well-being, obesity medicine, and the interplay between inflammation and psychiatric disease. She emphasizes the benefits of physical, mental and spiritual well-being while simultaneously honoring the cultural background and relational experiences of the individual.
