Medical Director, Student and Employee Health

Performs complex medical work. Serves as Medical Director for student and employee health clinics.
• Conducts physical examinations and diagnostic evaluations of patients and obtains medical histories. • Counsels patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive health care. • Conducts chart reviews and participates in medical care quality improvement activities. • Orders laboratory examinations and analyzes X-Rays. • Prescribes medications and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests. • Initiates, updates, and maintains patient medical records. • May perform or assist in performing surgical operations. • Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. • Monitors ongoing medical treatment and reviews diagnostic studies. • Consults with physicians and other treatment program staff on comprehensive health care. • Prepares, presents, and participates in Health Promotion activities for university. • May direct and coordinate the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required. • Serves as physician sponsor for Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner clinical staff. • Supervises clinical standing orders for professional nursing staff. • Reviews Blood Borne Pathogen Program annually. • Serves on UTRGV Committees as assigned. • Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal doctoral degree (MD or DO) from an accredited university in Medicine. Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical License. Must be qualified to hold a faculty appointment.
One (1) year of directly related work experience. Knowledge of medical methods, procedures, and trends. Knowledge and experience working with diverse student populations.
