SSM Health
Vascular Neurologist in renowned SLUCare Heath; Work alongside the Nations Best
Saint Louis, MO
SLUCare at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital (SLUH) is home to one of only two comprehensive stroke centers in the St. Louis region within the SSM network. Our nationally recognized neurointerventional program attracts top-tier trainees, and we are committed to maintaining excellence in stroke care, education, and research.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Vascular Neurologist to join our team and strengthen our inpatient vascular neurology service. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to work alongside our current vascular neurologists who also provide neurointerventional services, in a comprehensive academic medical setting.
Why This Position Matters:
This role is critical to our division for several important reasons:
- Provides dedicated faculty coverage to support growth and improvement of our inpatient vascular neurology service
- Ensures consistent attendance with hospital metrics, policies, and procedures to improve mortality indices
- Enhances the quality of training for our residents through consistent faculty presence rather than yearly rotations
- Improves the training experience for neurointerventional fellows, allowing them to develop their academic portfolios while receiving appropriate supervision
- Brings additional expertise to support our developing internal telestroke and teleneurology programs
Unique Program Structure
Our Vascular Neurology program at SLU/SSM stands out because our inpatient stroke physicians are also neurointerventionalists. Currently, our two faculty members manage the inpatient stroke service and two-thirds of the neurointerventional service on 1.5 clinical FTE, while also serving as program directors for two fellowships (ACGME vascular neurology and UCNS neurointerventional). This demanding clinical volume and call burden has created challenges for research initiatives and NIH Stroke NET participation.
By adding a dedicated vascular neurologist to our team, we aim to enhance clinical coverage, improve educational experiences, and strengthen our academic and research capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a consistent attending physician for the inpatient vascular neurology service
- Provide direct patient care for acute stroke and other cerebrovascular conditions
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance stroke metrics and outcomes
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary stroke team to optimize patient care pathways
- Contribute to the education and training of neurology residents and fellows
- Support the development and implementation of telestroke and teleneurology programs
- Assist in maintaining hospital accreditation standards and improving mortality indices
- Participate in clinical research opportunities within the stroke program
- Help build and expand our stroke services throughout the community
Qualifications:
- Board certification/eligibility in Neurology
