SUMMARY

The Pulmonologist position will be responsible to diagnose, treat and manage children, adolescent and young adult patients with simple to complex conditions to including but not limited to chronic cough, recurrent pneumonia, asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic mechanical ventilation, interstitial lung disease and sleep disordered breathing and related conditions, etc.  The Pediatric Pulmonologist is accountable for delivering comprehensive quality patient care according to standards of practice.  The Pulmonologist functions as a member of an inter-disciplinary team within an integrated academic model.

 ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Assess, evaluate, diagnose and treat pediatric patients. 

Performs and/or orders clinically appropriate procedures for each patient.

Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results, clinical examinations and perform physical examinations in formulating a diagnosis, plan of care and documenting in conformity with applicable professional standards, third party payer requirements and the Division’s policies and procedures. 

Prescribes clinically appropriate medication and treatment for each patient. 

Refers each patient to other physicians, including specialists and other health care providers, whenever the patient's condition as necessary.

Keeps and maintains accurate, complete, appropriate, timely and legible medical records relating to all professional services provided.

Uses and promotes evidence-based clinical practice.

Reviews on a regular basis long term cases that require ongoing medical attention.

Consults with Medical Director and other medical professionals as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.

Participates in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by the hospital.

Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model. 

Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.

Participate in peer review, development and consultation. 

Participate in special programs and services as assigned.

Academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as per division chief.

Participates in 24 HR Pediatric Call Coverage

Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.

Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.

Perform other duties as assigned.  

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No direct reports but oversees Fellows, Residents, Medical Students and Advanced Practice Providers (APRNs & PAs).

EDUCATION and/or  EXPERIENCE  REQUIRED

MD, DO degree 

Completed Pediatric Fellowship training

LICENSE  and/or  CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

Board eligible or certified in Pediatric Pulmonology. If not Board Certified in Pediatric Pulmonology must be board certified in Pediatrics)

Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut 

Active and Unrestricted D.E.A. Certificate
