Job Details
This Advance Practice Provider (APP) role in Neurosurgery will have responsibility for the evaluation and team-based care of pediatric neurosurgery patients to include but not be limited to outpatient evaluations, inpatient consultations, and daily care as well as surgical first assisting.
- This role also has on call responsibilities on nights, weekends, and holidays (estimate 4 days/nights of call / month).
- Inpatient duties include, but are not limited to, rounding on all inpatients, attending to the needs of daily care, daily EHR documentation, communication with consultants, answering questions from collaborating teams, bedside RNs, rehabilitation providers, pharmacy, coordinating operative care, patient discharge, facilitating appropriate follow up for patients, and coverage during the day, as well as on call responsibilities.
- Further the APP will be a surgical first assistant in the neurosurgery cases.
- Outpatient responsibilities include independent assessment and care of a variety of conditions as well as participation in multidisciplinary clinics and satellite clinics.
Certifications
- Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association or obtained by start date.
- Current State of Arizona certification as a Nurse Practitioner OR Current State of Arizona certification as a Physician Assistant or obtained by start date.
- National board certification to match area of education OR maintain certificate in National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Education & Special Skills
- Master’s or Doctorate degree from an Accreditation Commission for Nursing (ACEN) and/or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited graduate school of nursing in Pediatric Acute care, Pediatric primary care or Family Medicine OR Master’s degree from nationally accredited ARC-PA program.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal communication, and basic computer skills.

The Division of Neurosurgery at Phoenix Children’s is growing to support the needs of the Southwest and beyond. We are the largest pediatric neurosurgery program in the state of Arizona. We offer comprehensive and compassionate care and support for children and their families with known or suspected neurosurgical conditions. Our services include outpatient, inpatient and surgical care for the pediatric patient to include diagnostic and laboratory testing, imaging, and procedures. Our program serves as the main neurosurgery referral for a population of 7 million residents, of whom 1.5 million are in the pediatric age range.

Phoenix Children’s main campus, located in the heart of Phoenix, is a full-service, freestanding, tertiary medical center, offering 483 licensed beds, 72 of which are dedicated to intensive care and 49 of which are NICU.
