It oversees an active program in studying the use of simulation for training NICU providers, including mannikin, virtual reality, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and other creative teaching methods. Research interests include nutrition and iron metabolism in neonates, corticosteroid metabolites in extremely low birth weight neonates, chronic lung disease, neonatal vision, surfactant delivery methods for respiratory distress syndrome, perinatal brain injury, monitoring kidney function with near-infrared spectroscopy, guiding newborn resuscitation using telemedicine, and using artificial intelligence to enhance neonatal care.
