Job Summary:

The Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health seeks an exceptional and visionary academic geriatrician to assume the role of Division Chief of Geriatrics and Gerontology. This is an opportunity for a full-time Professor or Associate Professor Academic Clinician. In this influential position, the Division Chief provides strategic and operational leadership, oversees the faculty and staff of the division, spearheads the expansion of our clinical, educational, and research programs, and guides the professional development of our esteemed faculty. This is also an opportunity to teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows, thereby shaping the next generation of medical professionals.

The Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology is comprised of 45 faculty (including 13 research faculty), and 18 APPs (including 8 research APPs), providing primary and sub-specialty geriatric care at clinic locations, in addition to the outstanding inpatient Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) and Transitions of Care (TOC) programs they manage. The division is internationally recognized for its research programs in Alzheimer's Disease and dementia as well as Health Equity and holds a training grant for learners in the biology of aging with over $41 million in division research funding (direct costs) last year.

We seek a transformative leader in geriatrics who will foster the growth of our division's research portfolio on aging, with a focus on clinical trials, implementation science, and health services. This role promotes an inclusive culture of collaboration and cohesion among our exceptional faculty, empowering them to achieve new heights of academic excellence. They will also envision novel approaches that will accelerate our division's track record of impactful research and innovation.

Our work is supported by numerous federal grants and a long-standing partnership with William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital Geriatric, Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC), a prestigious center of excellence dedicated to improving health and well-being of aging Veterans.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be an acknowledged academic physician with demonstrated excellence in research, education and clinical care.

  • Must possess a record of scholarly achievements, outstanding leadership skills, professionalism and ability to develop interdisciplinary, collaborative programs.

  • Candidates for Professor or Associate Professor rank must meet criteria for appointment per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track.

MD, DO or equivalent

License/Certification:

Required

ABIM - American Board of Internal Medicine Certification OR ABFM – American Board of Family Medicine certification
Completion of an accredited fellowship training program in Geriatrics is required.

Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in Geriatrics.

Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin Medical License.
