    Nicklaus Children's Hospital, a 307-bed freestanding children's hospital and ACS-verified Level 1 pediatric trauma center, and Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the physician multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children's Health System, have exceptional opportunities for a BC/BE fellowship-trained pediatric emergency medicine physicians and BC/BE General Pediatrics physicians with at least 3 years of extensive pediatric emergency medicine related experience to join one of the busiest emergency departments in the United States.     The 65-room Emergency Department at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital was visited over 97,000 times in 2023.  The Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and the Emergency Department are the focal points for high acuity pediatric care in South Florida. The department is multi-faceted and focused on developing the next generation of physicians with the pediatric emergency medicine fellowship program and residents and medical students who rotate through the service. Voluntary academic appointments are available through an affiliation with Florida International University (FIU).

     

    The current team is comprised of more than 30 board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric emergency medicine physicians, 18 pediatricians and 15 advanced practice providers, with pediatric specialists and subspecialists on call, 24 hours a day. Emergency Department shifts vary from 7-10 hours based upon the time of year and coverage of 3-8 physicians per shift, depending on the time of day. The entire Emergency Department staff are dedicated to maximizing the patient experience through continuous process improvements.

    Full-time and staff relief opportunities are available for Pediatric Emergency Medicine physicians. Coverage/shifts will be provided at Nicklaus Children's Health System (Main Campus) Emergency Department and 3 dynamic community-based pediatric emergency departments in the greater Miami-Dade County metro area and Jupiter, FL.  

    There is a well-coordinated and robust transfer process between the three hospitals and the Nicklaus Children’s

    Hospital main campus to support admissions and subspecialty care needs.
