Job Functions

Administration:

  • Participate in the research, development and writing of transplant policies, protocols and practice guidelines for this program
  • Active participant of M & M for the MTI along with active participation in the MTI High Risk Selection Committee.
  • Implement all transplant policies and procedures as they pertain to the care of these patients
  • Restructure and maintain excellent patient care in the clinics
  • Assist with all relevant federal and state statutes, regulations, and administrative instructions, standards of care and the accrediting standards of CMS, UNOS and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure that HIPAA policies are implemented and followed by all clinical, administrative and research staff of this unit.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with the medical staff, transplant service staff, administration for this program.
  • Oversees processes to ensure that transplant nursing staff and clinical transplant coordinators are appropriately oriented to the program and continue to participate in transplant related continuing education programs.
  • Help develop along with the Surgical Director the inpatient infrastructure required for the hospital care of Advanced Heart Failure, LVAD and heart transplant patients – develop inpatient service line
  • Ensure that the Service fulfills service responsibilities in the most cost-effective manner and cooperates in and complies with infection control and quality assurance.

Program Initiatives:

  • Lead efforts to develop and maintain a good outpatient clinical program for LVAD and heart transplant.
  • Lead the effort in establishing the proper inpatient infrastructure to support and growing LVAD and heart transplant program.
  • Collaborate with the Surgical Director to establish transplant program goals and objectives consistent with those of the hospital and of the MTI.
  • Collaborate with all multidisciplinary service lines to help in the care of these patients both pre and post-transplant; including co-chairing weekly Multidisciplinary Pre-Transplant SelectionCommittee meetings where candidacy of new heart transplant and LVAD referrals are reviewed and accepted or declined for listing.

  • Develop and provide input on the development and maintenance of practice guidelines, policies and methodologies for medical care of these patients.
  • Promotes research activity within his/her specialty for themselves and other physicians within the MTI, thus enhancing both clinical and academic endeavors/pursuits.
  • Participate in site review by regulatory agencies and insurance companies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Board certified in Medicine with a completed fellowship in Cardiology and underwent Transplant Fellowship or has held more than 5 years of transplant experience
  • Member in good standing of the hospital staff.
  • Currently licensed to practice in Florida
  • Minimum of five years clinical experience in Transplantation
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to accept and implement change
  • Ability to problem solving to make effective decisions.
  • Demonstrated history of positive collegial relations with colleagues, support staff, administrators and patients.
  • Ability to show leadership qualities in the past
