  • The Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program is responsible for the overall direction of the Family Medicine Residency Program. This is a faculty position combines an emphasis on clinical teaching and outstanding administrative skills.

    Resident Recruitment

    • Responsible for selecting, recruiting and retaining residents who are committed to care for underserved populations, interested in academically rigorous training in an urban setting and meeting the needs of our diverse patient population

    Curriculum and Teaching

    • Continually develops a curriculum emphasizing principles of family and community medicine that includes an emphasis on 1) a relationship-centered model of care in the context of an interdisciplinary team; and 2) a balance between education and service

    •At least 20% of time dedicated to clinical teaching, which will include precepting in the Family Health Center and include attending on the Family Health Center Inpatient Service

    Residents

    •Responsible for creating and maintaining an educational environment that protects resident safety, fosters their well-being, and nurtures their professionalism and responsibility

    • Develops and maintains system to ensure residents’ successful completion of program

    Education Administration

    •Responsible for initiating, coordinating, and administering policies, procedures, and activities which enhance education and training in the Residency Program

    •Responsible for key residency committees and events

    Training Settings

    •Responsible for residency educational operations of the Family Health Center and Family Health Center Inpatient Service

    •Responsible for educational activities for Family Medicine residents at UPMC McKeesport Hospital and affiliated UPMC Hospitals (Magee, Children’s Hospital, WPIC, etc.)

    •Serves as co-director of the combined UPMC McKeesport WPIC Family Medicine Psychiatry Residency Program

    •Serves as liaison between the Family Medicine Residency Training Program and other UPMC residency programs

    •Represents the program at the UPMC and Dept of Family Medicine GME Committees

    •Responsible for identifying, creating and maintaining high quality educational rotations for family medicine residents at other hospital and clinic settings to meet curricular needs

    •Responsible for oversight of orientation of new residents to the Family Health Center and to UPMC McKeesport Hospital

    Regulatory Issues

    •Develops and operates the program to meet the general and specific standards of accreditation

    Patient Care

    •At least one-half day per week of primary care practice in the Family Health Center

    •Participates in the on-call faculty schedule for the clinical services of the Department

    Fiscal Management

    •Assists with the management of program’s financial resources and annual budget; involved in planning and oversight

    Faculty Development

    •Collaborates with Chair, Department of Family Medicine to identify and develop faculty educational activities to enhance teaching of residents

    Job Requirements

    ·Specialty expertise in Family Medicine and at least three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience

    ·Board Certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine or by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.

    ·ABMS and AOA Certification

    ·Ongoing clinical activity with previous leadership experience

    ·Unrestricted Pennsylvania Medical License

    ·DEA certification

    ·Accredited Family Medicine Residency Program completion

    ·Medical Degree (MD/DO)
