Carilion Clinic Department of Anesthesia and Virginia Tech Carilion (VTC) School of Medicine are accepting applications for a highly skilled Fellowship Trained Critical Care Anesthesiologist. 

This is an exciting time to join our team as we develop a new Anesthesia Residency Program targeted to begin in Summer 2026. 

Clinical responsibilities include patient care in the Anesthesia Department at Carilion Medical Center (CMC), an 835-bed tertiary academic health center. CMC is one of the largest and busiest Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma centers in the region with 49 anesthetizing locations and NORA rooms. Our faculty fosters robust academic programming while keeping foremost Carilion Clinic's mission of providing excellent care to its community.  

The position includes an academic appointment at Virginia Tech in the tenure track at the rank of Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Professor based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Critical Care Anesthesia, a passion for teaching and research, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care in a critical care setting. Research interest with Fralin Biomedical Research Institute-VT is supported. 

 

Responsibilities 

Provide expert anesthetic care to patients undergoing critical care procedures 

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans 

Perform pre-operative assessments, including reviewing patient histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering necessary laboratory tests 

Administer anesthetic medications, monitor patients during procedures, and make necessary adjustments to ensure their safety and comfort 

Provide post-operative care, including managing pain control measures and monitoring patients' recovery 

Act as a mentor and educator, supervising and instructing medical students, residents, and fellows in the field of critical care anesthesiology, research opportunities if interested 

Requirements 

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited institution 

ABA Board certification or Board eligibility  

Completion of ACGME accredited Critical Care Fellowship 

Excellent clinical skills and knowledge in the field of anesthesiology 

An experienced clinician and educator with a solid track record of scholarly work 

Good communication skills, clinical and teaching skills 

Commitment to education and a desire to contribute to the training of future healthcare professionals, research opportunities if interested
