The Medical Oncology, Hematology Oncology, BMT/Cell Therapy and Neurology Oncology inpatient/outpatient APP functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a health team is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients. He/she demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses, specifically cancer patients in active treatment. He/she is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice. He/she works with administrative, nursing, physician, to assure safe, effective, quality patient care and to promote educational and research missions.
This APP is dedicated to assisting patients and their families as they cope with various forms of cancer. The APP is trained to manage the physical and psychological needs of the oncology patient and his or her family. He/she will provide primary, acute or tertiary care in a variety of medical settings including but not limited to private practice, hospitals, cancer care centers, and palliative care centers. He/she may also work collaboratively with educational programs on cancer prevention and similar topics.
Essential Functions/Clinic Specific Responsibilities:
· Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients with acute, chronic and/or potential health problems.
· Establish medical diagnoses.
· Oversee treatment infusions and supportive care needs.
· Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice including chemotherapy.
· Manage general medical and surgical conditions based on knowledge of the indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities.
· Provide appropriate direction to clinic staff regarding patient care issues.
· Communicate effectively with referring and primary health care providers.
· Manage independent outpatient clinical practice and coverage for collaborating physicians.
· Maintain accurate, complete, concise and timely documentation in the electronic medical record according to group practice.
· Participate in medical oncology/hematology specific clinical quality and research projects.
· Educate patients and families on treatment plans, wellness care, and survivorship plans.
· Participate in learning opportunities.
· Participate in and accept on-call coverage assignments, inpatient, outpatient, various oncology specialties, weekend coverage and holiday coverage.
Education and/or Experience
Nurse Practitioner: Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from accredited Nursing Program with active board certification as a NP in: Adult; Adult/Gerontology, Acute Care; Family.
OR
Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from accredited PA Program with Active PA Florida license and active PA board certification.
OR
APRN: with active RN and APRN license in Florida. For Inpatient Care Acute Care Certification required.
Desired Qualifications:
· Experience with HIPAA and other Healthcare standards a plus
· Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Practice Management (PM) software and MS Office Applications
